Description
Owned for 25 years, very reluctantly selling due to arthritic right knee so I can no longer kick it over. One of the last to leave the Scott works before they came under control of the Ministry of Supply prior to WW2 and one of only 13 sprung-frame Clubman Specials made,. This bike was the only one fitted with a standard engine. In my ownership it has had the. following work: Silk pistons (more efficient), Moss cranks/ big ends (won't break like standard cranks), Crankcase cups and glands magneto rewound, carb rebored/ new slide, re-ground, reduction gear on Pilgrim pump (increased efficiency), improved modified gear selector, modern friction-bonded clutch plates (no slip/ drag), German silver radiator, Front forks rebuilt by Percival Bros & Webb, Genuine Reynolds primary and mag chains, modern soft brake linings, headlight reflector re-silvered and 6v halogen bulb. New tyres and tubes as I was planning. two ride it in the spring but age has caught me up. This is a bike perfected over the years for riding. it's very presentable but not concours. The Dunlop seat cover has a split that doesn't affect its use (new tops are available on ebay) Chrome on wheel rims is poor although they were rebuilt. I would consider a deal on a pre-war Guzzi 500 (left foot kickstart) Price is negotiable, I'm open to sensible offersThe Achilles heel of Scott bikes is the overhung crankshaft which is prone to cracking. The Moss replacement cranks, made from aircraft spec. material, are now virtually unobtainable; a set sold recently sold for nearly £4, 000. Any Scott with its original crankshaft is considered by many, a disaster waiting to happen,
