Description
According to its Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, the car shown here was manufactured on 15 March 1954 and shipped on 29 March to Hoffman, New York, USA. The car is presented as ordered when new in the colour 'cream' with a red interior and black soft top. It is an 'SE' (Special Equipment) model with a quick-fit number, developing 180 bhp instead of 160. At the end of 1999, the car was exported to the Netherlands in good, solid original condition but in need of restoration (see photo). Between 2000 and 2002, the car was restored by Jaguar's Dutch specialists, Kolvenbach. The restoration is well documented with invoices and numerous photos. Since the restoration, the car has been well maintained by Jaguar specialists. The current owner bought the car in 2012 and has thoroughly enjoyed it! He has competed with this car - amongst others - in the 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2021 Gran Premio Nuvolari rallies. He informs us that he has always finished without any problems. This XK120 benefits from adjustable seats and the original seats are present in the car. It is perfectly suited to tall drivers - 190 cm in length without any problems. In addition, the car comes with chrome wire wheels, an extra cooling fan, fog lights, an aluminium radiator, a Halda tripmaster, side windows, a tonneau cover and a black convertible top. The dedicated owner has spent around €20, 000 maintaining the car to a high standard over the last 12 years. The bodywork shows that it has undergone a high quality specialist restoration and the paintwork is also very nice. The bodywork is straight and the fit of the panels is excellent. The engine starts at the touch of a button and has good oil pressure. The Moss gearbox isn't the quickest but it's a pleasure to use. The interior is in very good condition with only a few signs of wear on the foot mats - the leather seats are in very good condition. The result is a superb, fast XK120 'SE' Roadster in very good roadworthy condition! The car is registered in the Netherlands (EEC) and is a 'Special Equipment' model with matching number and colour. It comes with a beautiful history file and several spare parts as described above. The car also comes with a FIVA historic passport. The price is 97, 500 euros. A tempting offer if you want to have a loved and cherished car that would be suitable for a fun open-air drive or rally! Model history When the Jaguar XK120 was launched in 1948, it was unique. This new Jaguar sports car brought the performance of a racing car to the road, while offering a level of comfort and sophistication unheard of in this type of vehicle. The car was intended for limited production to test Jaguar's new twin overhead camshaft engine, referred to by the initials 'XK' during design and development. In its original form, the engine produced 160bhp, enough to give the XK120 a top speed worthy of its name and exceptional acceleration. The car was the fastest produced in the world and, at £1, 263 (including purchase tax), the exciting new performance was within the reach of many more people. The specially-equipped engine, with high-lift camshafts, developed 180 bhp. Today, the appeal of XKs may lie in intangibles such as nostalgia and style, but they can be very practical cars. The performance, even by today's standards, is quite...
