Description
Porsche 911 2. 0 S Targa Softwindow – one of the first cars produced with the “Targa” specification, which initially had a rear window made of vinyl, hence the name “Softwindow”. In the Series 0 cars, the body/ chassis numbers of the coupes were identified with the first digits 300, and the Targa models with the first digits 500. This car’s chassis number belongs to the “500” batch; in fact, the chassis number is 500691.
Specifically, 718 vehicles were produced with this specification, and according to the parent company’s data, only 246 in the more powerful S version. This makes it an extremely rare model. The chassis, gearbox and engine numbers match the original. Built in the first half of 1967, with the following options: tinted Azzurrati glass, radio with antenna, speaker, front fog lamps, Webasto heating, tool roll/ carrying bag. It was finished at the factory in Polo Red with black leatherette (similpelle) interior trim, and equipped at the factory with forged Fuchs alloy wheels in 4. 5-inch size, produced in this exact measurement only for this model year, and therefore very rare.
The spare wheel is steel and, as you can see from the photos, the 1967 manufacturing date.
The car has matching numbers and was originally delivered to Cupertino in California (USA), as shown in the attached Kardex. The climate in this location allowed the car’s condition to remain excellent. This vehicle was purchased in 1998 by me. The car was in good condition, with no perforating rust and regularly running/ drivable.
A careful preservation-style restoration was carried out – in other words, trying to save as many original components as possible, using the highest level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. The car was dismantled and extensively photographed.
The original Polo Red colour was applied using the correct Glasurit paint. Würth wax oil was applied to the car’s recessed sections for extra protection against rust. The interior was re-lined where needed.
The engine was dismantled and internally overhauled according to the original Porsche specifications. Even the carburettors were fully overhauled. Heat exchangers were installed together with a new exhaust silencer. The transmission was dismantled and internally overhauled according to the original Porsche specifications.
General wear items were replaced, the paint received a professional correction, extensive detailing and other small additions were carried out to bring this extraordinary car to an even higher level. It’s not often that such a sought-after car comes onto the market in such outstanding condition.
It’s a very reliable car. The 6-cylinder engine is in the most powerful version (160 hp) for that specific model year; it has excellent torque and fires up immediately.
The car is of US origin, regularly imported into Italy with customs duties paid and registered in Italy.
It can be technically verified at the Porsche Centre in Naples. The Porsche Italia Certificate of Origin is also published, along with the car’s Kardex showing all original specifications.
