– Summer’s nearly here, and here’s a great, low mileage, well-maintained retro open-top car that’s ideal for daily use and for catching a few rays.

It’s one of the very last Phase One Mégane Cabrios, registered in May 2003 in the runout Dynamique+ specification, which means it gets the lively 1. 6-litre 16v engine with 110bhp. This one’s a five-speed manual, which is generally more desirable than the troublesome Renault autos of the era. It has covered a shade under 61, 000 miles from new and has MOT until October 2025.

The service history is quite remarkable – the car comes with a Renault book pack detailing regular servicing from new. There are 14 stamps in the book backing up the mileage, with the last full service carried out in October 2023 at 60, 150 miles. It has covered less than 1, 000 miles since, and had a new cambelt and water pump at 51k, less than 10, 000 miles ago. I’ve got bills for over £1, 000 spent on the car in the past three years.

It’s a nice spec, with half-leather seats, fully working air conditioning, a CD changer in the boot, four electric windows and a power-folding roof. It’s finished in the imaginatively named “Renault Grey” and is in good, solid condition with no previous welding or corrosion advisories on past MOTs. It’s a four-seater open-top that’s ready to jump in and go, and it drives brilliantly – I’ve been using it daily this year and it’s surprisingly snug and taut with the roof up, yet a joy to drive on sunny days with the roof dropped down.

The electric roof works fine and stows neatly into the rear deck, while everything works inside, including the remote controls for the stereo.

It’s a very presentable car overall, with a couple of very small dents in the front wings (as shown in the photos) and some paint repairs on the rear bumper that pass the ’10 paces’ test, but are notable up close. It’s also got one broken fog light cover, but I have sourced a brand new, replacement fog light that will come with the car (I just haven’t found time to fit it, yet). There’s also some wear to the top corner of the driver’s seat where it has been rubbed by the seat belt – but for a 22-year-old car, it’s in great overall condition.

I was going to keep this car and use it myself to enjoy open-top motoring this summer, but I’ve recently acquired an Alfa Romeo Spider for that, so I fancy a tin-top for the daily duties that’s a bit more frugal than my old Range Rover.

A fun little retro car for the summer, low mileage, amazing history and always well-maintained. I’d prefer to sell it outright, but will consider a swap or PX for something retro and interesting because I can’t help myself….
