Launched in 1989 and based on the MK2 golf platform to homologate the rally for VW's Group A rally campaign with its box arch designed to accommodate a wider track front and rear due to the rallye's syncro 4 wheel drive system made it to a supercharged version of the 8 valve GTI engine only 5000 G60 rallye models were ever built, handbuilt in Belgium by VW motorsport all were in left hand drive and only available in mainland Europe with a list price of double that of a standard Golf GTI this example was surpplied new in Germany in 1990 before being imported into the UK in June 1998 registered with an import company originally then bought and registered by the current keeper in October of the same year showing only one previous UK owner, dry stored for the past 20 years, being sold due to vendors work commitments, comes with an extensive history file from its original import documents through to a large collection of invoices for servicing and maintenance during the current keepers ownership. The G60 Golf Rallye really is something quite special. Just 5, 000 were hand built in Belgium by Vw motorsport to satisfy FIA homologation requirements for the 1990 World Rally Championship and although the best VW had to show for its efforts was a solitary third place the legacy is a thoroughly fascinating vehicle. This one more than most!
I am pleased to offer this stunning 1989 Golf MKII Rally 4WD G60 with only 5000 being made worldwide, this is an outstanding example and any inspection is welcome. Visually, the limited edition Rallye was distinguished by the body coloured grille housing rectangular headlights (instead of two sets of round headlights), the redesigned front bumper, the considerably wider front and rear fenders with a boxy look, and the extended side sills. Under the bonnet there is an 8 valve, G-supercharged, 1763 cc engine with a larger intercooler and electrical injection, producing 160 hp (119 kw) of power and 226 Nm of torque, combined with a 5 speed manual gearbox and a Syncro four wheel drive system. This car has a wealth of history that is incredible. A large folder is filled with invoices & paperwork going back to 1990. Every invoice for maintenance is present, alongside the original service booklet with supplying dealer stamp in Germany.
The Rallye also wears its original VIN sticker in the Service booklet.
Paintwork is immaculate and the underside has been treated with Waxolin and subframe powder coated. All new poly bushes through-out.
Original dashboard in immaculate condition, with custom laser cut titanium dail’s, Factory half leather Rallye interior in excellent condition . Factory leather door cards, in immaculate condition & zero water damage (rare to find now). Factory headliner still fitted & in great shape. Dashboard is also immaculate with no cracks or damage. This has been a dry car for the past 25 years stored under a cover in the garage. And never go’s out in the rain.
Not a spot of rust anywhere, absolutely solid car.
Original matching numbers 1H G60 engine. Runs fantastic & boosts very well. All maintenance has been carried out over the years to ensure it’s kept at full health using all original vw parts, regardless of cost. It has the following specs:
-Silicone coolant & boost hoses
-Rare Supersprint 4 into 1 full stainless steel exhaust system, the quality is unreal & the sound is incredible.
The gearbox is in fantastic order &. shifts through the gears nicely , with the help of a short shifter. Also has a new clutch. Fitted a few years ago I’d hasn’t really been used.

over the past 10 years have probably done 1000 miles , This is the reason why I’m selling, as it’s parked in my garage gathering dust.
