This is quite likely the finest 1971 Dodge Challenger on the planet. It sports its original 440 Six Pack engine, a ton of unique options, and is so heavily documented that there's a special binder just to hold it all. With a fresh restoration to the very highest standards, this is among the last of the investment-grade Mopars ever built.
With a top-flight car like this, you don't cut corners and you don't deviate from original. Fortunately, Chrysler provides fender tags (this is a loaded two tag car, by the way) that you can follow to ensure that it is restored exactly as specified originally. That means Plum Crazy paint that's concours-grade and light years ahead of anything Chrysler could have managed. It's a super clean original car from Arkansas and its ownership history is known back to day one, so there's no questionable bodywork, just laser-straight sheetmetal. Of note, this car carries the unusual A78 formal roof package, which was seldom seen on R/ T models and leading Galen Govier to speculate that it may even be one of one. R/ T stripes were installed, the performance hood treatment was duplicated, and new R/ T badges were fitted. Every detail is exacting, because any flaw Galen found was subsequently corrected, making this as close to a 100-point car as you're likely to find.
The original owner went all-out inside, and the restorers kept their end of the bargain, resulting in a show-winning black bucket seat interior full of options. Power windows, a center console, an overhead consolette, intermittent wipers, and the original AM radio are just a few of the goodies you'll find. Of course, everything has been restored to the very highest standards, and most of the components are brand new. The Rallye gauges, including optional Tachometer, have been restored, the clock keeps time, and the cool 3-spoke steering wheel is beautifully preserved. That's an original pistol-grip shifter, linked to a date-correct 4-speed manual, which was a critical ingredient when you ordered your car with the Trac-Pak. The trunk features solid floors, a correct space-saver spare complete with jack assembly and inflator bottle.
Formidable is the best way to describe the 440 Six-Pack under the hood. While the Hemi gets all the glory today, most Mopar fans realize that the 440 was every bit as fast and represents somewhat of a performance bargain. This is the car's original, numbers-matching engine, rebuilt and detailed for show with correct components, colors, finishes, and markings throughout. Even the manifolds wear a proper coat of Hemi Orange overspray, since they were painted fully assembled and the paint would burn off almost immediately-this car is FRESH! Note that this car has power steering and power disc brakes, as well as a bulletproof #'s matching Dana 60 out back full of 3. 54 gears. Original Rallye wheels have been fitted with correct F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GT bias-ply tires for the perfect stance.
