Description

January 1981 Princess 2 2200HLS Automatic. Top of the range Austin-Morris car finished in striking vermillion orange, this car turns heads wherever it goes.

Only 68, 000 miles from new with 5 previous owners and a pile of old MoT’s back up the mileage along with bills and invoices for work carried out over the years. The six-cylinder engine is smooth and quiet and allied to its excellent three-speed Borg-Warner automatic gearbox this Wedge glides along effortlessly, and thanks to a recent cylinder head refurbishment (invoice for work) this Wedge really does perform admirably and the stainless steel exhaust system emits a nice throaty burble. Two new rear wheel brake cylinders were fitted and the brake fluid was completely renewed, as was the oil and coolant. It drives excellent and is a superb all day long motorway mile eater.

The Hydragas suspension is in perfect working order and does not leak and gives the exemplary smooth ride you should expect.

This car has had some body restoration work carried out over the last few months (pictures available on request) to bring it up to the standard you see here. New rear wheel arches and a new offside front steel wing (genuine Austin-Morris part) have been fitted and two doors were also replaced. It was then sent to the bodyshop where both sides and the lower front were repainted but the bonnet and boot lid were left in their original paintwork and there is no difference in the colour between old and new paint whatsoever. The car is now in the original as it left the showroom specification and all HLS trim is present and everything works as it should.

The vinyl roof is all original and is in amazing condition and the screen surround trim and drip rails have the chrome finish.

The black velour interior is in excellent condition apart from a small cigarette lighter burn at the top of the rear backrest on the drivers seat. The roof lining is excellent with no sagging. All of the interior lights work, as do all the dashboard lights and switches, and even the heated rear screen works. There is a period non-working radio cassette fitted but I put this in to fill the hole. I will leave it up to the buyer to decide whether they want to fit a period head unit or a modern one, but all the wiring is in place and the speakers are in the doors ready for you to fit and listen to whatever head unit you wish to install.

This car comes with 11 months MoT, five months road tax and is ready to drive, show and enjoy right now.

Rarely do Wedges come up for sale in this condition and the price reflects the condition of this example. It really is a stunning car.
