Lot 202

c. 1926 Scott 498cc Super Squirrel 3-Speed
Registration no. BF 9240
Frame no. 673
Engine no. Z7573
Alfred Angas Scott was firmly convinced of the advantages of the two-stroke engine when his first machines were manufactured in 1908, and he remained so, until his departure in 1918 to pursue other ideas. His successors obviously subscribed to the same beliefs, as they continued with the two-stroke engine for motive power throughout the company's history. Scott won the Senior Isle of Man TT in 1912 and 1913, but further achievements were thinner on the ground following the First World War. Improvements of the machines were eventually incorporated, notably around 1923, the adoption of a three-speed gearbox, and a new duplex frame with a tube running from the steering head to the saddle tube. Purchased by the vendor at Bonhams' Stafford sale in October 2019 (Lot 319), BF 9240 was at the time unregistered, and in need of restoration. The restoration work was completed, and the machine registered in June 2020 with the assistance of the Scott Owners' Club and the VMCC. Since completion, the Scott has been kept on display in the vendor's private collection. Since 2020 the Scott has not been used, so a new owner will need to carry out some re-commissioning and safety checks prior to taking to the road, hence offered strictly as viewed. Please note that the rear stand has broken and needs repairing. Documentation accompanying BF 9240 includes a current V5C, correspondence and dating letters from the Scott Club and the VMCC, and a quantity of Scott-related literature, most of which seems to be unrelated to this model. Key not required.

All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
