Description

HISTORY In 1963, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the world would welcome one of the most iconic vehicles ever created. It still took several months before the cars were produced to be sold to customers. Between 14 September and 16 November 1964, 82 cars were built and the 901 was unveiled in October 1964 at the Paris Motor Show. Officially, the 901s already built were used for testing and exhibitions and Porsche did not sell any of them to private customers. Nevertheless, it seems that some of the cars kept by Porsche at that time later became private property: in 1988, number 20 was discovered and completely restored by Kurt Schneider and his wife Lori. In 2010 it was reported that car number 37 was owned by a Porsche specialist named Alois Ruf. Porsche responded by simply replacing the middle 0 with a 1, calling the car Porsche 911. This also affected other Porsche models, primarily intended for racing but also sold as road-legal cars. In these cases, Porsche retained the internal 90x number, but used a unique name for marketing purposes, selling the Porsche 904 as the Carrera GTS and the Porsche 906 as the Carrera 6. Porsche enthusiasts continue to refer to these cars by their three-digit design numbers. The 901 was renamed after French carmaker Peugeot objected to Porsche's use of any three-digit number in which the middle number was 0, claiming ownership of the naming rights in key markets and having already sold many models under this scheme. The first cars from 1964 production bore chassis numbers beginning with 300, while those from 1965 bore chassis 301 and 302, of which only about 40 cars survive today.
Our car is a rare 1965 chassis 302.
The car is fully matching numbers with beautiful original interior, very rare original Solex carburettors, original heater, original bodywork with no replaced panels and meticulously restored by a renowned Porsche specialist with an extensive archive. One of the rarest early 911s in an incredible original condition that should be part of any serious Porsche collection.
