Description
What is it?
2005 Smart Roadster Brabus Coupe YB54LSL
It’s been more than 20 years since Smart’s tiny two-seater micro-car hit the UK’s roads, and there really was nothing else like it, the fact that every journey in the Smart is an event.
Despite its microscopic size, the Smart has a remarkable amount of room for the driver particularly for the hatchbacked Roadster-Coupe version, it's amazing how much luggage you can cram in the back and the well between the front wheels.
What has it got?
The Brabus comes with heated seats, turboboost and temperature gauges and front fog lights.
They looked a bit meaner, too, thanks to 17in ‘Monoblock’ alloys and a body kit
Our example present with Silver bodywork combined with black interior, part-leather for the sports seats with electric heating elements and the electric roof.
How does it drive?
Brabus versions were tuned for 101bhp for a 0-62mph time of 9. 5 seconds, the feisty three-cylinder engine, which really loosened up as time went on and always growled amusingly. In fact, that was one of the Smart's best tricks - the noise, allied to the ground-skimming driving position with mid-engined balance, always made it feel faster than it was.
The Roadster Coupe is still attractive because it’s a properly lightweight little thing (it tips the scales at just north of 800kg) Plus, actual Gordon Murray used a Roadster as his daily driver, and he’s a man who knows a thing or two about cars.
Why this one?
A well cared for example from long term ownership (15 years) with full service history from Smart and specialist garages and two former keepers. Recent service including new spark plugs, brake fluid service, new MOT, engine coolant, new rear track control arms, new 12V battery. Front axle and suspension refurbishment in June 2020, little use since.
We have fully waxoyled the underside to protect the car from the elements.
Our example comes with a Full owners manual and associated literature, along with spare keys.
If you’re looking for an antidote to today’s big, heavy and complicated offerings, the Smart Roadster could be just the ticket.
