Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The January Timed Online Auction on Thursday the 30th of January, Online. Background:
Launched at the end of the 1980s, the two-door R129 was an intergalactic leap from its world-beating, successful R107 predecessor, capturing hearts and minds with its sumptuous interior and an abundance of unique technology not available in any other car marque at the time.
The sleek, pillarless roadster offered three body styles in one - a full-on roofless convertible, an automated fabric roof, or a removable ‘winter hardtop’, which gave it a sleek, coupé-like profile when fitted.
The R129 Mercedes-Benz SL is regarded by many as a modern classic in the making.
The Car:
This 1994 R129 has a mere two previous owners, both of whom were known to the current owner. The original custodian was a doctor who maintained it regardless of expense. He then passed it to a member of his family, who dry stored the car for some time before the baton was passed to the current keeper some 12 years ago.
The car's history is extensive, with all old MOTs still with the car, along with the reassuring stamps in the service book, all of which back up the incredibly low mileage. Also included is the hardtop roof with the oh-so-rare panoramic glass fitted.
Supplied with a fresh MOT and a brand new battery. A rare opportunity to buy an R129 as though it were a year old.
Please note that the private plate shown is not included with the car, and it will revert to its original registration.
