Ordered new by the current President of the Maserati Club UK, this Quattroporte Duo-Select is one of only two cars worldwide supplied new in Giallo and the only one with a blue leather interior – yellow and blue being the colours of Modena. At the recent Salon Privé “Quattroparty” event to celebrate 60 years of the Maserati Quattroporte, this car was awarded the ‘most outrageous example’!
Collected in person from the Factory in July 2004, the car was back in Italy only a couple of months later, where it took part in the 90th Anniversary Maserati International Rally. Since then it has been a regular at Maserati events, most recently in September last year when it undertook a 2000 mile round trip to Salzburg for the 2024 International.
Sold by it’s first owner in 2008, it then went on to have four other owners, two of them being the MD and then the Workshop Manager of McGrath Maserati (!), before returning to the first owner in 2019. It has always been treated as a classic car in terms of use and maintenance and in the last few years has had considerable attention in order to maintain it’s condition.
The service record has a complete set of stamps from new up to the current 82, 000 miles, initially by supplying dealer Meridien Modena, then Modena Trident in High Wycombe and since 2013 McGrath Maserati. The Cambiocorsa clutch was replaced in 2020 at 65, 000 miles and a recent pre-sales check shows clutch wear since then to be 24%. At that time other repairs included new F1 pump, new front brakes and front suspension wishbone sets, which together with annual servicing represented an investment of £12, 000 in the car.
Since then, in 2021 a new front subframe was fitted as the original had suffered corrosion, a common problem on these cars and in 2022 a round of work was completed to combat the ‘sticky buttons’, another common issue. Most recently, a new set of lambda sensors was fitted. At point of sale, a service will be included, as well as a new MOT.
These early Duo-Select cars offer a more sporting driving experience than the later automatics, having better balance due to the transaxle gearbox and dry-sump engine. This car must now be one of the best examples of the type left, having been maintained almost regardless of cost by the current owner and used sparingly in the summer season only. It also has the added cache of being a well-known car within the Maserati Club and a rare colour combination.
