Description
The Rover P5 3-litre was launched in 1958 and produced until 1967 when it was replaced with the P5B. The MK2 cars arrived in 1962 with a more powerful engine and a coupe style body was made available with a lower roof line, better instrumentation and powered steering as standard. Just over five thousand Mk2 Coupes were sold and many of these were exported, the small numbers perhaps due to a list price higher than a MK2 Jaguar at the time.
This car is a 1963 P5 MK2 Coupe in its original colour scheme, Stone Grey over Juniper Green, fitted with various extras from new, including a badge bar, additional front lamps and mud flaps. It presents in outstanding condition - not quite a concours car but certainly one of the very best. In 2017 it was treated to a comprehensive refurbishment including a body re-paint to a very high standard and a complete interior re-trim which is best described as sublime and would cost perhaps half the value of the car to replicate.
As you would expect, this Rover runs and drives beautifully and as well as it looks.
The last owner bought this car a year ago as a keeper and immediately spent over £2k on a comprehensive service and various electrical jobs. Unfortunately he covered very few miles before being diagnosed with a serious illness which forced the sale of the car. We bought it and carried out one or two minor detail jobs after a period of little use and a couple of hundred test miles. It is now running and driving beautifully and everything works including the original period “Radiomobile” radio. It is fitted with an expensive stainless steel exhaust system and electronic ignition.
This P5 is a rare car, with just a handful of MK2 Coupes left on the road. It is in outstanding condition and it is ready to use.
