Description
A rare and charmingly original matching numbers example with significant recent expenditure.
We are selling this car on behalf of the current owner.
History
One of 882 made, our example was manufactured in 1968 but not registered until April the next year in Firenze, Italy. This HF had just four owners in Italy, registered in the Florence area until 2017 when we imported it into the UK and sold it to the current owner, so this is a five owner car in total.
This particular LHD example was modified in period, when the suspension geometry was upgraded to that of the 1. 6 HF, at which time we believe the iconic fanalone (big headlights) and wheel arch extensions were also fitted, together with Campagnolo magnesium alloy wheels and Perspex rear screens, all in the spirit of the 1. 6HF model.
We sold the Lancia to the current custodian at 92000 klm who has added over 15, 000 klms to the odometer including trips to the French Alps and Corsica.
As the car had remained unused for some time as bought by us, we re-commissioned the Lancia including overhauling the braking system and fitting Avon CR66 CZA tyres. The current owner has invested in further improvements and much maintenance with marque specialists Omicron and Day & White, total spend on the car since importation is in excess of £40, 000.
Body
Either you love or hate the presentation of this car. Some of the paint is factory original, and what isn’t is either very old or recently blended sections. Cracked, faded and flat - a genuine “oily rag” patina.
The four opening panels are all aluminium as they should be. The body is straight with decent panel fitment. Fresh wheel arch extensions have been fitted including some related wing repairs, plus new sill sections and sub frame mounts (photo documented and performed by Omicron). Previously the floors have been replaced so chassis wise, this is a really strong example.
The car sits on a set of very rare Campagnolo alloy wheels which are in good condition, as is the exterior trim and lighting.
Mechanics
Our car has the correct 1. 3 HF tipo 818. 342 engine and 4 speed gearbox. The proximity of the engine number and chassis number suggest that this is the engine the car was born with, although no archives exist to guarantee this.
It’s a blast to drive: super light and responsive. The 1. 3 HF engine is quite trick, differing from the standard 1. 3 unit in camshafts, pistons, conrods and compression, as well as benefitting from hand finished inlet and exhaust tracts. It makes a great noise, too, thanks to the big bore competition exhaust fitted.
In recent years the car has benefitted from a new fuel tank, full brake overhaul,
new Koni dampers, gearbox overhaul, new clutch, cooling overhaul, new 123 electronic ignition system, new oil cooler and hoses, new exhaust, upgraded electric fuel pump and fuel regulator, new battery, 4 x Avon tyres, new fuel hoses and much detail servicing.
Interior
A well preserved original cabin (but re-stuffed seats front and rear, new door card backings) original carpets, original headlining, original steering wheel (re-lacquered).
Boot
Original and complete with tool kit, Battaini jack and alloy spare wheel and tyre.
