Description
History:
In the style of the 30s, the Morgan Plus8 was built on a steel ladder frame with 94 ash wood elements. The hand-assembled sports roadster is known for its advertising slogan: Do you really think your life is hard? Then you've never driven a Morgan!
This example was first delivered in Luxembourg on 25 September 1981. The Morgan was imported to Switzerland in February 1987 and remained in western Switzerland until Goodtimer took over in 2020. The Plus8 was restored and made ready for the buyer over a period of two years, requiring almost 200 hours of work.
Bodywork and paintwork:
The paintwork in the original Jaguar Dark Blue factory colour (factory certificate available) was completely renewed in 2010. Today, some patina is visible and the deep lustre is excellent following the paint renovation. The special feature of this example is its aluminium bodywork, which was made to customer order at the time.
Interior:
The new full leather interior was completely redesigned on behalf of the buyer in 2021. Bentley's ‘saddle’ leather was chosen to give the Morgan the desired nobility. A high-quality burl wood dashboard and a matching wooden steering wheel were also added.
Engine and mechanics:
The V8 engine, which can also be found in the Classic Range Rover, is an almost indestructible machine. The solid and simple technology, the reliability of the entire drive system and the simplicity of the design make it possible to overlook the one or other creative power management solution. This Plus8 was also sufficient for the usual maintenance work and replacement of wearing parts during the last major inspection. During the restoration work in 2020 & 21, the electrics were overhauled and newly secured and the fuel supply from the petrol tank to the carburettors was overhauled.
Chassis:
The crisp and hard chassis makes you feel every bump, which is transferred to the chassis in a sporty manner with the new shock absorbers. The steel frame is robust, unwelded and preserved.
Driving experience:
848 kilograms kerb weight with 160 high-torque hp make the Plus 8 a bullet. The Plus 8 drives like a go-kart and gets the power out of the basement. The ability to accelerate the car in fourth gear from 20 km/ h to 200 km/ h as if pulled by a rubber band is a unique driving experience in this genuine sports roadster.
Recommendation:
A Morgan Plus8 with an aluminium body is not only a pleasure to drive, it is also a worthwhile investment, as such examples are extremely rare and absolutely stable in value. Thanks to the extensive and documented restoration of 2020 and 2021 as well as the technical maintenance, this Plus8 is an extremely affordable example that can be re-registered for the veteran's test in three years with little effort.
