Description

History of the 90s Japanese sports cars and in particular the Nissan 300 ZX

It sounds almost absurd nowadays, but 35 years ago the people in charge at Ferrari and Porsche didn't lose sleep over McLaren or the Mercedes-AMG. Back then, the culprits actually still came from Japan. At the beginning of the 1990s, the most sought-after sports cars bore emblems from Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Toyota. The Japanese were competing in the development of high-performance and technically innovative sports cars in order to gain a foothold not only on the domestic market, but also on the European and American markets. These sports cars were attractive, technologically advanced, exceptionally reliable and were suddenly able to keep up with the untouchable Porsches and Ferraris, in some cases even surpassing them. Legend has it that Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, then President of Ferrari, described the 348 produced between 1989 and 1994 as a "shitty car" compared to its eastern competitors. Back then, the Japanese used technologies that the Italian brand's models could only dream of. Four-wheel steering, for example, active aerodynamic elements, Wankel engines and adaptive dampers. What's more, the supercars from the Far East were significantly cheaper. The Nissan 300ZX was a prime example of this claim. It combined technical innovations, high quality and a very attractive price-performance ratio. The 300ZX Z32 was therefore not only an expression of Japanese engineering skill, but also a symbol of Japan's growing ambitions in the global sports car market. The Nissan 300ZX Z32 was first introduced in Japan in 1989 and made its European debut in early 1990. The new generation of "Z-Cars" replaced the previous model (Z31) and immediately became the flagship of Nissan's sports car portfolio. The 300ZX Biturbo impressed with a completely new design language, aerodynamically flowing lines and a wider, lower body that emphasised its sporty aspirations. The twin headlights and the flat sloping front section created a futuristic appearance that perfectly met the tastes of the time and was met with great enthusiasm by critics and car fans alike. At the heart of the Nissan 300ZX Biturbo was the 3. 0-litre V6 engine with two turbochargers, which delivered an output of 280 hp and a maximum torque of 388 Nm. These figures were remarkable for a production car in the early 1990s and gave the 300ZX impressive performance. The biturbo accelerated from 0 to 100 km/ h in around 5. 5 seconds and reached a top speed of around 250 km/ h, making it a serious competitor for European sports cars. In addition, a sophisticated, electronically controlled chassis (Nissan's "Super-HICAS" steering system) ensured exceptionally good road holding and precise handling.

Description of the Nissan 300 ZX -SSC612 offered here

A Nissan 300ZX Biturbo with Targa roof and manual gearbox - is a rarity. Yet here it is, presumably having arrived in Germany via Switzerland in 2011, waiting for a new owner who wants to experience the spirit and power of this extraordinary sports car. Even the first glance at this unique Z32 is enough to make the heart of any car enthusiast beat faster. The aesthetics of the car have been further refined by removing the standard but barely functional rear spoiler, giving it a surprisingly elegant line. With the removable targa roofs, this Nissan can be enjoyed both open and closed - a feature that is as rare as it is desirable today. This ZX-T tells the story of a sports car that has been treated with care for over 30 years. A charming patina awaits you in the interior, giving the 300ZX its very special character. Nothing looks worn or neglected; everything is functional and in a condition that will make any enthusiast breathe a sigh of relief. The care of the previous owners is evident in every detail and makes you feel that this 300ZX is more than just a car - it is a witness to an era when Japanese sports cars shook up the market. As soon as the ignition key is turned, the legendary V6 biturbo comes to life. This engine is not just a drive - it is a composition of power and sound that lets you feel the power even at idle. The power delivery of this 6-cylinder is simply breathtaking and, together with the low kerb weight, provides a driving experience that thrills. The chassis is perfectly tuned for dynamics and stability, and the brakes grip with a directness that gives the driver the reassuring feeling of having full control at all times - no matter how intense the acceleration and how tight the bends may be. Of course, we recommend a timing belt change before the next big adventure, which we are happy to carry out for a separate charge. This Nissan 300ZX Biturbo is a jewel among Japanese sports cars, symbolising a time when Japan burst onto the international sports car scene and secured a place in the hearts of drivers around the world with innovative engineering and passionate performance. This Z32 is no ordinary car - it is a piece of sports car culture, a milestone in Japanese automotive engineering and an experience that will retain its excitement for the next generation. We are offering this Japanese super sports car on behalf of the consignor (consignment sale). Registered in Germany since 2011, this Nissan currently has German registration papers.
