Description
This car is known as a Austin 7 Sports, Lightweight Car AKA “The Baby”. It was originally designed in 1922 and it is thought that only 5 cars were made, although this is up for debate. This more unusual model was restored by Barry Clarke to 1922 spec and is period correct. Barry's attention to detail is second to none - he really put a lot of effort into it to make it what it is today.
The engine is correct with correct components for the year. You will notice it doesn’t have a fan which is in fact correct. The engine is very sweet and runs very well indeed. It has the correct carb with no choke and has priming taps on the head. The car has the correct Dynamo for a non starter motor car, although it does benefit from a starter motor having been added. The gearbox is the correct early 3 speed gate change, with a metal coupling rather than the later fabric prop shaft U/ J.
It drives fantastically and, as you can imagine, goes very well being so light! It has the correct rear axle with cylindrical diff casting and no strengthening webs and the front axle is also a very early one with the right features.
The body was built by Keith Roach of RTC who is very well known for the accuracy of his Austin bodies. We do have a spec list which includes many more features which can be shared.
We have a lot of history and paperwork with the car including its current V5.
The car is VSCC eligible and is also complete with a VSCC logbook.
