Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The September Online Timed Auction on Thursday the 26th of September, Online. Background:
The 3600 is a classic American pick-up truck that was part of Chevrolet’s Advance Design series, which ran from 1947 to 1955. This was the first major redesign after World War II, and the 3600 model represents the ¾-tonne variant, offering more payload capacity than the half-tonne 3100.
With its rugged design, influenced by the military machinery which all US car-makers had been producing during the conflict, the Chevrolet 3600 became a popular choice for farmers, tradesmen, and businesses in need of a reliable work vehicle. With its longer wheelbase and robust frame, it was ideal for carrying heavier loads.
The truck typically came equipped with a rugged 216cu. in (3. 5-litre) straight-six, which produced around 92bhp, paired with either a 3-speed manual transmission or the preferred 4-speed manual option. Later models saw engine upgrades, including a 235cu. in (3. 85-litre) six, which provided greater power, torque and efficiency.
Notable for its simple yet durable design, the 3600's exterior had rounded fenders, a prominent grille and smooth lines that gave it a distinctive post-war look. It featured a split windscreen with minimal chrome accents, while the cabin was basic but functional, with bench seating and a utilitarian dashboard.
Today, the Chevrolet 3600 is a highly regarded classic truck, often restored by enthusiasts for both show and practical use. Its combination of vintage charm, reliability, and historical significance has made it a staple in the classic car and truck market.
The car:
Originally supplied in Wisconsin, this exceptional Chevrolet 3600 is believed to have been imported to the UK in 2020, where it received the care and attention it truly deserves. Upon its arrival, the current vendor oversaw a comprehensive electrical overhaul, ensuring all systems were as they should be and functioning perfectly. The chassis has been expertly cleaned, protected, and preserved, showcasing the attention to detail given to maintaining its originality.
This particular example is powered by the renowned 216cu. in (3. 5-litre) straight-six, paired with the highly desirable 4-speed manual gearbox option. It delivers an authentic and engaging, but importantly, practical driving experience.
One of the most captivating aspects of this vehicle is the bodywork, which retains its authentic patina, rich with character and history. To preserve this unique feature, a complete clear coat was applied, allowing the truck’s storied past to shine through while offering long-term protection. Mechanically, this 3600 is in outstanding condition. It's a true head-turner wherever it goes, blending vintage charm with robust performance, making it an absolute joy to drive and a standout addition to any Collection.
Summary:
This truck offers an ideal blend of character and functionality. Whether as a charming and reliable commercial vehicle, a distinctive advertising tool, or a prized addition to an enthusiast's collection of Americana, this classic truck is sure to turn heads and capture attention.
