• Very original and in unrestored condition
• Beautiful interior
• Very good driving example – ‘a true survivor’
An Italian icon was born at the Geneva International Motor Show in 1966. There, Alfa Romeo introduced the 1600 Spider, which we now know as the ‘Duetto’. This was the last project led by Pininfarina’s Giovanni Battista. Underneath, Alfa Romeo based the 1600 Spider on the Giulia Sprint GT with a shortened wheelbase of 225 mm. Equipped with a twin carburettor 1, 570 cc engine the Alfa manged to achieve an output of 109 hp. The combination of this engine with a five-speed gearbox, independent front and rear wheel suspension, disc brakes all around, and a weight of only 990 kg makes this Alfa Romeo a fantastic car to drive, and it is no wonder that this is such a highly sought-after model.
The car we have on offer here is in a very original and unrestored condition and can be considered to be in an immaculately preserve state. Roughly 30 years ago, it was not uncommon to find an unrestored specimen in good condition, but, unfortunately, these days that is a rarity. Therefore, we are pleased to have an original specimen in our collection.
We acquired this beautiful Duetto from the second owner, from an enthusiast who drove the Alfa in sunny Santa Barbara, California. The warm and dry climate has done a lot of good for this specimen. For example, this Alfa Romeo has never been welded, and although the paint is old, it suits the original and unrestored condition of this specimen. This also applies to the chrome work such as the bumpers and hubcaps. Overall the car looks totally representative.
The interior is also still very original, the upholstery of the seats, the door panels, the instrumentation, and the dashboard simply emphasise this beautifully. On the wholel, considering its unrestored condition, it looks neat and will make many purists smile.
Thanks to the five-speed gearbox with independent front and rear wheel suspension and disc brakes all around, driving this Duetto is a joy, and it guarantees many (sunny) kilometers. Under the hood, the overall condition is original. This specimen drives as it should. The engine runs smoothly, the gearbox operates smoothly, and the brakes feel safe and good, partly due to the disc brakes. This car comes with a number of documents including (workshop) manuals.
Unrestored cars always have a special allure in our opinion. They have history, and they haven’t been completely taken apart. That makes them into something special. Because this Spider comes from a dry and warm climate and has only had two owners, it should be considered very pure example. It’s almost impossible to find one like it anymore, which makes this Alfa rare. This car has a Dutch registration.
