Description
Principal Facts
We are pleased to offer for sale this Mercedes Benz R107 500SL, finished in a rare and extremely attractive colour combination of Smoke Silver Metallic with Brazil Leather interior.
Supplied new to a Mrs Knight of Chepstow on 28th October 1988, F588NPD left the showroom equipped with some choice features, including an outside temperature gauge, fire extinguisher, cruise control, heated front seats and even a limited-slip differential.
Condition
Almost 40 years and 100, 000 miles later we’re pleased to report that this 500SL presents in extremely good condition inside and out, and certainly feels like it’s done half the mileage from behind the wheel. All of which points to careful, considered care and maintenance from its six previous keepers.
The paintwork & chrome look as bright and pleasing to the eye as they would have done in 1988, and the rich deep brown of the Brazil leather interior will bring a smile to your face every time you step inside the car, a gorgeous interior colour sadly not found on modern cars.
History
Supplied to the current owner by ourselves in 2017, among the history file you’ll find a Mercedes Benz service book with stamps going all the way from the first inspection in 1988 at Mercedes Benz of Monmouth right up to 2022. Additionally, a wad of MOT certificates, and some other invoices for routine maintenance along the way.
Whilst there’s no record of it in the history file, one previous owner took the decision to remove the rear boot spoiler which came as standard on the range-topping 500SL, a feature which divides opinion among owners still to this day, we know which side of the fence that owner must have been on.
Summary
There’s plenty to like about this 500SL, Smoke Silver paintwork still looking fantastic, plenty of options ticked when new, mileage low enough to mean it’s still in super condition, but high enough to mean you don’t need to be precious about how often you use it. But for us, the interior steals the show – Brazil leather is hard to come by, and in this condition it’s a seriously enticing prospect indeed.
