EXTERIOR
With only 12 examples ever created, the 3400 S is a special thing indeed let alone a two tone special born out of the owner’s love for Lilac! The Bespoke paint job was an idea hatched by the owner and the Ruf family to create something really special and such is the passion for the project the car has stayed with the original owner from new.
The RUF styling exercise incorporates a 996 GT3 bumper, sports side skirts and unique door mirrors to really propel the pretty 986 shape into something all together more aggressive and cohesive.
Subject to a comprehensive overhaul in 2020, the paintwork is in fabulous condition and the car really has to be seen to be fully appreciated and admired. Who wants to be one of the crowd when you can go unique with RUF and their bespoke Porsche powers.
INTERIOR
The familiar 986 cabin space has received a full RUF makeover with GT3 bucket seats, thick rimmed Alcantara wheel and drilled aluminium pedals. Alongside bespoke sill strips, mats and body colour roll over hoops the commitment to the colourway cannot be questioned with even the roof matching the lilac aesthetic. The rich blue upholstery was thoroughly restored in 2020 and all contact points show very little to no wear at all.
The driving position is first class with the waistline of the bodywork relatively high, so feels very snug even with the roof lowered.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 996-derived 3. 4 litre engine really shifts the character of this 986 platform Boxster; amplified by a stunning factory Sports Exhaust that leaves no doubt it goes just as well as it sounds. The 6 speed Gearbox is reliably tactile and a joy to use.
Now with genuine 911 firepower to exploit the playful chassis, this RUF offers the ultimate Boxster experience – one that many fans of the model would have loved to have seen Porsche produce themselves in period.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The signature RUF 5 spoke Magnesium wheels are a stunning design that fill the arches of the 986 perfectly. These wheels were replaced at great expense in 2020, as part of a total restoration, and appear in fantastic condition wrapped in a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S’ all round.
Brembo brakes clamp all four corners offering excellent stopping power and have been adequately matched to suit the body colour as it shifts from Lilac at the front to Blue at the rear.
HISTORY FILE
This incredibly special RUF was ordered new from the manufacturer in 2001 and has been with the same owner from new. The original owner was very close to the RUF family and the lady designed the car alongside Alois’ wife Estonia based upon her love for all things Lilac. The car would follow the family’s movements around the UK, South Africa and Germany – all illustrated by a bulging history file with invoicing from the main dealer’s and marque specialists throughout the cars life.
With significant work carried out by RUF and latterly Black Falcon Motorsport – esteemed Porsche preparation experts based at the Nürburgring – over 20k Euros was spent on restoring the car with an engine and transmission overhaul as well as a full respray in the original colourway and ice blasting of the underbody. Having just returned from Porsche Brooklands the car is on the button and ready to go.
The RUF name reached wider international acclaim with fans of the Playstation platform game – Gran Turismo 3. The 993 based CTR 2, 996 based RGT and Boxster based 3400 S were all very special additions to the ever popular driving simulator that people could access, tune and drive from their own home. Infact, such was the scarcity of this particular model, Sony approached the owner to scan this very 3400 S for the game itself!
