History of the Porsche 911 2. 4 E

The Porsche 911, also known as the "Neunelfer" or simply the "Elfer", is probably Porsche's best-known sports car. The first 911 was presented in 1963 at the IAA in Frankfurt am Main as the successor to the Porsche 356 with the designation Porsche 901. The 911 is a typical 2+2-seater sports car. The first Porsche 911s are real men's cars. For example, they do without power steering or brake boosters. In the course of further developments at Porsche, the engine capacity grew from the original 2. 0 litres in 1970 to 2. 2 litres. When the American state of California announced that it would only allow cars to run on regular petrol from 1972 onwards, Porsche reacted immediately and geared its product range to 91 octane. However, sports car buyers were not to be expected to accept less power, so the engine capacity was increased to 2. 4 litres, which actually meant an increase in power. Of course, Porsche also tested the sportiness and reliability at almost all major events and used them accordingly for advertising.
The 165 hp variant in the E-model provides a lot of driving pleasure and the complete Porsche driving experience. After all, the well-fed horsepower has a comparatively easy time of it with a weight of around 1050 kg. The seats are comfortable, all-round visibility is perfect and the controls are hardly a mystery once you discover the ignition lock to the left of the steering wheel. In the rear, the air-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine saws and shrieks depending on the revs.
