Mercedes 1988 280 GE Automatic RHD 120k miles.
With the very expensive genuine Mercedes plastic fuel tank.
New bits -
Original Merc radiator has been re-cored
Front brake callipers (new)
Brake hoses
Shocks
2 into 1 exhaust downpipe
1 new front indicator, genuine hella unit
Rear left right cluster replaced, genuine hella
3 x new hella number plate lamps
Engine -
Top end re-build
New cold start valve.
Injectors.
Distributor cap, rotor, leads and spark plugs.
Some new hoses.
The engine has had a lot of work done, it is firing on all six cylinders and passed the emissions test but could do with tuning by a person experienced with the KE Jetronic injector system.
Gearbox works smoothly and Kick down operates perfectly.
The exhaust silencer was leaking, I have not found a replacement so it has been welded and repaired.
Interior -
Some splitting and cracking around the vinyl base of the drivers seat, the cloth is good but small amount of wear on the bolster (see photo).
1 small hole the size of a 5p coin on the passengers seat (see photo)
The passenger side pillar trim panel is split where the seat belt is mounted (see photo).
It has the original Mercedes carpet mats but missing the drivers side piece.
Electric windows are all working.
Underside is pretty much all original with signs only a couple of past repairs which have been done to a good professional standard.
There are small areas that could do with being treated now before spreading but no holes.
Suspension mounts are all good and sound.
The previous owner for some reason added push button start, novel idea but no idea why he added it, works fine though.
Exterior
It has age related chips, scratches and minor dents but still looks great at a distance.
Main areas of rust to deal with are both front wings front lower corners and behind the headlight surrounds where the covers
retaining screws have rusted out the metal.
Minor surface corrosion around left side rear corner around the light cluster.
Rear door bottom end. (only the centre so easy repair)
Some rust on side door bottom. ( rear passenger )
The previous owner had fitted genuine Merc arch flares but the front pair are not the correct ones, you can see in the photo’s. The arches in good condition underneath apart from in a couple of spots.
I bought this wagon 1 and half years ago, the previous owner was the landlord of the Globe Inn in Hay on Why and i believe he had it for the best part of its life.
This is an good G Wagon, not messed with and pretty original, very rare to find now. It has an amazing presence on the road and turns heads.
As with all vehicles, you can’t see all the bad bits in the photo’s so please ask for any close ups etc and i will add them.
