Greta is our beloved original 1969 Right Hand Drive Early Bay Painted Dash "low light" Dormobile Campervan ,

she was properly restored 10 years ago and is in completely correct & superb condition in all regards - structurally, cosmetically & mechanically as VW and Dormobile intended.

We have had an absolute ball in her over the last 10 years : she's been no show queen, instead we have holidayed and partied in her as is only right.
Greta has been to the Skye Cuillin, done the NC500, to Mull, surfing in Pembrokeshire and to so many music festivals we've lost count.

Sleeps 4 , with front and rear seatbelts , modern retro styled sound system with USB , Bluetooth , SD card reader etc. The sale can include the Khyam Quick Erect Motordome Sleeper Driveaway awning (they are the best), rear roof rack and Maypole Cover.

The family (rainbow campervans in the lake district) are the number 1 renter of classic vw campers in the North of England for 20 years now , we know our vans , but Greta was just a bit too nice to leave in the care of strangers, and didn't fit the "rainbow" colour scheme, so instead she became our own personal campervan.

To create our "perfect" Baywindow VW camper, we knew we needed to start with the very best bodyshell we could find , in the most desirable configuration of the earliest early bay with oval rear lights, curved air inlets and bumpers (as per the previous Split Screen's to 1967), low indicators , rare "Full Moon" hubcaps, right hand drive and our favourite colour scheme of Cloud White over Savannah Beige, and in our favourite classic camper conversion by Dormobile UK in Kent with its walkthrough" layout into the cab (where the cooker appears by magic) and that huge Martin Walter candy striped roof .

Greta was fresh from a full body resto by the best in the business, (if you buy a van with an even slightly dodgy bodyshell, because you "can't afford" a correctly sorted one, it'll cost you - you'll be in for an £8000 bill in a few years, trust us it won't be cheaper, don't do it) with the lightweight magnesium crank-cased 1641 vertical fan engine with the cooler-running "doghouse" oil cooler. Greta can run with modern traffic quite happily , easily outrunning T4's and Transits and later Bays thanks to being correctly set up and her low weight. We went through the engine ourselves anyway , checking every seal, bearing and piece of tin wear to make sure we would have the reliability VW became renowned for. We removed the fuel tank, cleaned it out and sealed it, new vdo fuel guage fitted, replacing the flexible hoses with 100% biofuel compatible Cohline hoses guaranteed for 25 years and the filter moved away from the engine bay - this is the correct solution for not having aircooled engine fires , not remedial fire extinguishers after the event ! (Though we have fitted an extinguisher near the * cooker* just in case ;) . We replaced the Mexican Carb with a genuine German Solex 34 Pict 3 , rebuilt to better than new by Tim at Volksbitz in the USA, the dreaded and incorrect 009 Distributor was replaced with the correct 032 dual advance vacuum type , a German made Bosch rebuilt by H&H ignition in Birmingham. The Gearbox was better than most but had never been overhauled ever, so we took it to Bears Motorsport for a rebuild to better than new condition. Greta hasn't let us down once in 10 years. She's running the correct 8-ply reinforced commercial mud & snow tyres - these will get you out of the muddiest of fields and give the correct handling and stability in crosswinds. Avoid anything lowered or fitted out with "kiddy market" parts like the plague , VW and their Engineers knew exactly what they were doing, the modifiers would never get a job with VW ...

Last year in the spring we took off the Belly pans to inspect the underfloor , finding her absolutely perfect, despite 10 years of fun, resealed , waxoyled and preserved in Lanoguard (as used in the Belfast shipping industry). Fresh underseal to the arches & pans) All arches are perfect and there is 100% zero rot around the usual places , window seals are brand new from Schofields in Glossop etc etc etc.

Internally we retained as much of the original interior as we possibly could , including the original 1960's curtains and camper interior. Modifications in the name of convenience (and safety) included replacing the original 1960's bunk fabric with new genuine Dormobile beds (yes the company still exist and all parts are available, though the owner can be elusive !). We stored the original tartan bunk fabrics in case you ever wished to go back to patinated 60's original).

We fitted a secondary "leisure" electrical system using a battery to battery charger from Sterling Marine (as used in your average luxury yacht) and a Varta leisure battery to prioritise and protect the charge of the starter battery. The only downside of the lovely Dormobile "walkthrough" layout is that , when the double bed is up , you can't access the top-loading Coolbox , so we replaced that with a front access Electrolux 3-way gas, 12v & 240v hookup fridge freezer (the original coolbox included in the sale should you prefer to refit it for full originality someday). Genuine original Full Moon hubcaps are like hens teeth, Greta proudly wears her originals , but I have a set of brand new repros if you'd like them.

Finally we added an oil temperature gauge and a Sentinel GPS Security Tracker. There's Far too much to list , it'll take you a while to go through the vast pile of receipts, this is a very well cared for campervan. I've owned (and still own) 1960s Porsches and I know how to keep a good classic in tip top condition. Always buy the very best you can afford - it'll be cheaper in the round , you'll get more pleasure & use from it and it'll appreciate the most in value.

If you're looking to own and enjoy a superb vw early bay window , currently available, at the right price ,

Will be supplied Freshly serviced and MOT'd.

A simply wonderful classic vw holiday machine , you'll easily sell her for the purchase price in 10 years time after a whole load of fun. You get to keep the memories.
