Description
I think Oltcits are wonderful. It’s a technical tour de force: overhead cam air-cooled flat-four engine; transverse rear torsion bars and in-line front torsion bars acting on a transverse leaf spring, creating a very passible imitation of Citroën hydropneumatic suspension via mechanical means.
Having thrashed this one back from Poland, I can report that it’s possibly the most pleasant ‘modern’ hatchback I’ve driven. It’s quite nippy and it rides and handles beautifully.
However, I’m struggling to convince myself that I’ll ever be motivated to get it on the road. Thus, I can’t kid myself that it wouldn’t be better off with a different owner.
If anyone has a burning desire to own an Oltcit, I think you’d struggle to find a better one anywhere. It’s been mollycoddled by an elderly owner for most of its life. It’s totally rust-free and it’s covered 49, 868km. It’s also a pov-spec version with metal bumpers à la Citroën Projet Y, which I view as nerdishly important.
It’s been standing for quite a few years and will need recommissioning. Prior to this, it drove well. The only issue I can remember was a noisy CV joint (it struck me at the time that simply swapping them left-to-right might be an effective immediate fix). The rear seat top is a bit foxed, too.
I think it’ll start and drive will minimal effort. I think it’s safe to assume that the brakes will need attention, though, before it can be considered drivable.
It’s Polish registered. I have the Polish registration document and a NOVA declaration.
Viewing welcome.
