The Appeal

If proof is needed that the X100 XK8 is a car that gets under your skin, here it is. This classic British Racing Green 4.2L coupe has remained with the same driver throughout its 20 years. He’s kept it because he loves it.
And with good reason. The X100 is a particular kind of Jaguar sports car, one that is both exciting and engaging whilst being comfortable and cosseting. Plus it channels the evocative style of the iconic E-Type.
The current keeper chose it as a company car when he was the director of a large public company, going on to acquire it as his personal wheels when he retired. The result is a very well maintained car with full service history - by main dealers and independent marque specialists - and a low mileage for the year.
There has been recent work to common areas for these cars - the headlining and the floors - and a service within the last year. It has covered less than 600 miles in that time. It comes to market with long MOT to March 2025.
The XK8 is a very popular modern classic and the colour combination and the provenance make this one make it stand out.

Jaguar had to design and develop the X100 quickly after Aston Martin ‘borrowed’ the firm’s original design for the XJS replacement. You wouldn’t know, such is the beauty and completeness of the XK8’s design. It manages to echo the E-Type yet deliver something wholly modern.
Certain colours complement the style well and, naturally, British Racing Green is one of them. It is a colour long-associated with Jaguar and an apt choice by this car’s marque enthusiast driver when he specified the car back in 2004. It is combined with a smart Ivory leather interior and walnut wood veneers.
Inside and out, this is a car that reflects that enthusiasm. It has clearly been cared for. There are some localised areas of aging to note, such as door edge chips and a couple of minor MOT advisories, but with recent work to the structure and interior, these are no more than typical for the age of the car.

The Mechanics

  • Later X100 with the larger and updated Aj34 V8 4,196 cc 290bhp engine
  • Later and more robust 6spd automatic gearbox with Jaguar J-Gate functionality
  • Full service history with last attention 600 miles ago in August 2023
  • Always maintained by main dealers or specialist marque independent garages
  • No known mechanical imperfections
  • Standard car with no upgrades or modifications
  • No mechanical or running gear advisories on last MOT
The XK8’s engine was Jaguar’s first V8, a powerplant carefully developed to ensure that it was as smooth and at least as powerful as the venerable V12 it was replacing. Its subsequent longevity and the feedback from owners confirms the firm met the brief. It imbues the XK8 with an effortless, very smooth driving experience that is typically Jaguar.
Later cars like this one got a couple of improvements that make them prized by enthusiasts. The engine capacity was increased to 4.2litres - a classic Jaguar displacement - with resulting improvements in torque. Perhaps more significantly these cars got the ZF 6spd automatic gearbox, which is generally regarded to be more flexible and robust than the previous 5spd unit. The signature ‘J Gate’ unit enables full automatic or sequential shifting.
This car’s single driver has kept on top of the maintenance, a run of regular servicing and maintenance being documented in the service book. This work was undertaken by main dealers and, more recently, independent marque specialists. The last service was in August 2023 and the car has only covered 600 miles since.
The seller described this car as ‘cossetted and cared for’ and, in the evidence of the photographs and history file, we’d have to agree. It comes to the buyer with no known faults.
