The Appeal
Ever since an open rear load bay was offered on the Model T Ford in 1925, America has wholeheartedly embraced the pick-up truck. Revered for their capacity to work hard and haul loads of all manner of shapes and sizes, these vehicles are an important piece of US history and the two dominant manufacturers became Ford and General Motors.
Produced by the latter, here we have a 1983 Chevrolet K10. These pick-up trucks have become highly sought after, especially in the short wheelbase form and they are comparatively easy to drive on narrower British roads.
This particular example is the most desirable ‘Stepside’, which some say has far more character and presence than the standard ‘Flatside.’ Originating from the sunny state of California, the bodywork naturally is devoid of any rust and the bright red paintwork simply shines in the sunlight. Having spent nearly all her life in the west coast of America, it has avoided salty roads as can be clearly seen by the excellent state of the bodywork and chassis.
Having formed part of a Private American car enthusiasts' collection the Chevy is now in need of a new home.
The History and Paperwork
- MOT valid until September 2024
- First UK registered in February 2016
- V5C present
- Haynes workshop manual and copy of an original Chevrolet ‘Owner’s and Driver’s Manual’
- Two former UK owners
- The odometer reading may well be correct judging by the truck’s overall condition, although this cannot be confirmed
This little red truck has clearly been loved and cherished throughout its life and has not been used hard as so many are and this is clear from its condition internally and externally with no obvious nasty dings or dents on its clean bright bodywork.
During its time in the States, it was fitted with a rear limited slip differential for much improved performance and economy now as a two-wheel drive for highway use rather than being driven on rough terrain where there would be the need for four-wheel drive.

The Interior
- Reupholstered to a high standard
- Original instruments supplemented by aftermarket rev counter
- Largely original specification and very well preserved
The interior exemplifies the overall superb condition of this truck. It has been reupholstered using fine quality material and this makes it a very comfortable and cosy place to be. All the dials are original and can be clearly viewed from the driving seat. They have been supplemented by a dash-mounted rev counter - a useful feature indeed on these older vehicles.
All remains very original and smart again with no signs of hard use or neglect which is remarkable for a truck now forty years old.
The Exterior
- Bright paint and dent-free bodywork
- Four inch suspension lift all round
- Now fitted with 33 inch tyres
- Sporty polished deep dish alloy wheels
As is abundantly clear, this truck has led a sheltered life. The bright paint and dent-free bodywork are witness to having not been used for off roading or hard labour. It has previously received a four inch suspension lift to allow better clearance for the fresh-looking 33 inch off-road tyres.
The vendor comments that the uprated suspension has also made the roadholding and general handling of the truck much more surefooted and comfortable.

The Mechanics
- 5.7-litre (350 cu in) Chevrolet V8
- Four barrel carburettor upgrade
- Tubular headers
- Starts readily and runs very well according to the vendor
- Automatic gearbox reportedly rebuilt during current ownership
This K10 is fitted with the ever popular, strong and reliable 350cu in 5.7 Litre V8 which just ‘barks’ into life at the turn of the key. We’re informed that it soon settles down to a lovely, reassuring rumble and provides ample performance.
The engine has been improved and enhanced with the installation of a four barrel carb along with tubular headers and runs without any clonks, bangs or knocks. These wonderfully powerful motors have been known to do many thousands of trouble free miles if regularly serviced and maintained.
The present owner has invested in recent works to improve it with the complete rebuild of the gearbox along with a brand new fresh MOT so the next owner can be assured of owning a safe and reliable vehicle.
Summary
This eye-catching bright red truck is offered in excellent condition bearing in mind it's now 40 years old. It would be perfect for show or tow, plus the opportunity as a great publicising or business advert as used daily by its previous owner.
