The Appeal
Looking every bit like a children’s Tonka Truck that’s been enlarged on the photocopier, this 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 has to be the ultimate off-road toy.
Much like the original Land Rover, Toyota looked to the American Jeep for inspiration when designing its Land Cruiser and the FJ40 is often compared to the visually similar CJ. With its separate chassis construction, hardy four-wheel drive system and range of almost unbeatable engines, the FJ40 proved an immense success.
Complete with its original 4.2-litre petrol straight-six, this 1978 Land Cruiser benefits from a great deal of work in recent years and a full service has been carried out in readiness for sale. While rugged in appearance (and in practice), it’s impressively well-equipped with power steering and air conditioning making for a comfortable driving experience - especially compared to many of its rivals.
Beautifully presented, in a colour that brings to mind your aunt’s '70s bathroom suite, this Toyota would be a great addition to any collection of off-road vehicles.
