The Appeal

If the Minor was Morris's masterstroke, it can't be denied that the Traveller is where it truly came into its one. Its traditional Woody styling and handy estate proportions made Britain's post-war car of choice into a classy country-style classic, and it's arguably this version of the Minor that resonates most with people today.

This 1966 Minor Traveller, then, is likely to garner plenty of admiring glances. Picked out in a charming Rose Taupe colour scheme from the Morris palette, this much-loved classic is a real looker, with a comprehensive history dating back to 1973. Regularly maintained and with plenty of work undertaken in the past four years, this is an eminently usable example that's well worthy of your attention.

The History and Paperwork

  • Registered in 1966
  • Comprehensive known history from July 1973, when the previous keeper's ownership began
  • Very regularly driven with the odometer having gone 'round the clock' in its first ten years
  • In July 1982 at 153,874 miles, a Factory Recon ‘Gold Seal’ engine, clutch, and Factory Recon gearbox were fitted
  • In May 1985 at 187,250 miles, it was laid up for two years in a garage
    • The owner then funded a major restoration by Minor Services, Witchford
    • This included major woodwork repairs, fitting of several new body panels, underside restoration, undersealing and a full respray in the original colour
    • In about 2018 the vehicle was again laid up for another two-year period but was regularly started every few weeks and generally maintained to keep it roadworthy
  • This previous owner, by then 90 years old, then sold it to the current keeper in 2020
  • Much work has been completed in the current ownership, detailed elsewhere in the listing
  • The odometer now shows 87,933 miles, which is second time round the clock
  • MOT exempt

The Condition

  • Nicely presented even so long after the restoration in 1987
  • Rose taupe colour scheme perfectly matches the car's lines
  • Some areas of wear, but nothing overly intrusive
  • Light corrosion visible behind one of the wheel arches
  • Brightwork is nicely presented with light patina
  • Woodwork rubbed down and treated with yacht varnish in 2019
  • This is beautifully presented and very bright against the paintwork
  • Interior features recoloured upholstery, new door pulls, and a new roof lining
  • New carpets and underlay fitted
  • Discreet electric clock and under dash charging plug installed
  • No sign of any rips or tears, and everything is in good, clean order

The Mechanics

  • 1000cc A-Series 4-cylinder engine
  • 4-speed manual transmission
  • Factory reconditioned 'Gold Seal' engine and gearbox fitted in 1982
  • Recent work (with genuine parts) includes:
    • New brake cylinders, master cylinder, majority of the brake pipes, and all the brake shoes
    • New radiator, exchange unit and overhaul of the heater matrix
    • Battery replaced
  • Regular servicing undertaken with fresh engine, gearbox, and rear axle oil
  • We've no reports of any mechanical issues and understand that it's a very reliable runner
