The Appeal

Following the war, MG were still mostly trading off of pre-war lineage. Their line of sports cars still felt decidedly old fashioned and stuffy compared to the evolving consumer palate, and it was clear a major styling break was needed to catch them up to their market rivals. It was here that eyes fell upon MG designer Syd Enever's streamlined bodywork, which he had penned for George Philips' TD Le Mans car.

It was bold, it was beautiful, it was remarkably elegant - and it perfectly reflected that post-war optimism that was streaking across the nation. It even felt like it could butt heads with some of the rather sleek American streamliners that had suddenly become all the rage. And what do you know - they were right, and the new car set the template for almost every MG sports car that came thereafter.

This '58 car underwent a comprehensive restoration twenty years ago, and has clearly been pampered. Picked out in the car's near-synonymous shade of red upon tan, it's a fine example of a truly special car, and we're sure it'll turn plenty of heads. Plenty of period features, alongside a recently fitted electronic ignition make for a very rewarding classic.
