The Appeal
Sim racing and e-sports generally are big business these days. With their ever increasing popularity, custom simulation rigs are highly sought after, both for home use and for commercial use at events.
This particular example has been lovingly crafted by Simbiotix, a professional engineering firm that specialises in simulation rigs for racers and aircraft. Manufactured to a very high standard using a number of genuine motorsport parts, whether you want the ultimate home racing rig or something that can be offered for commercial rental, this bespoke simulator would be perfect. Similar units can be rented for in excess of £1,500 per weekend, so there is significant income potential here.
The Specification
Built by a professional engineer with 20+ years of experience
Fibreglass reproduction of Schumacher’s 2004 Ferrari, from the front wing to just behind the air-box
Some elements thought to be from a real F1 car, as the brakes, vents and wheels are real and the carbon fibre suspension components are genuine, not vinyl wrapped
Cobra Simulations 150-degree curved projector screen with HD projector
Thrustmaster F1 force feedback wheel with T500 base unit and pedals
Powered by a PlayStation 4 Pro running EA’s F1 2021 (other games can easily be loaded as required)
The PS4 Pro and all of the electrics/interfaces ar housed in a dedicated compartment behind the driver’s seat
2.1 surround sound – 2x satellite speakers and a subwoofer
Overall size when in operation: 280cm (L) / 180cm (W) / 210cm (H)
Professional zip-fastened protective covers for transporting and storing the main car body
The car body will fit in a SWB Transit Custom, but a larger van is recommended to move everything together
The vendor tells us that the rig is a minimum 2 person lift to move or transport (ideally 3 or 4 person) as it is a heavy duty item, not the usual lightweight plastic construction
The Condition
We’re told by the vendor that the simulator has been subject to a recent refurbishment. Finished in an accurate reproduction of Michael Schumacher’s championship winning (and record breaking) F2004 car. As the car that Schumacher won his 7th F1 title in, it has rightly gone down in history as a notable machine. Here it looks to have been nicely replicated, with quality graphics and a good finish to the paintwork.
The whole thing appears to be in very good working order. As far as we could see, there is no damage to the screen or any of the electrical components or controls. The wheel and switches all look to be in excellent order, with no notable wear or damage apparent.
It is noted that there are a few minor chips and scratches to the car body itself, as would be expected with a simulator that users have to climb in and out of. But the wear that is in evidence is purely what could be considered commensurate with the unit’s use.
Summary
Whether you’re a keen sim-racer, an events company looking to widen your offering or a collector after something unusual and fun to add to your hoard, this well-specced and very well finished simulator just has to be considered.
