The Appeal

Hailed the spiritual successor to the legendary 300 SL, the C197 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG had big shoes to fill. But fill them it did - paying homage to the original’s looks, supercar performance and, of course, its iconic “Gull Wing” doors…
Jeremy Clarkson proclaimed it “the greatest car on earth” - praise indeed.
Delivered new in Germany to a successful doctor, this highly specified 2011 example changed hands for the first time in 2015 when it was sold to their friend and is now with its third keeper who also knows the original owner. It has always been serviced by Mercedes-Benz main dealers, last undergoing routine maintenance on 05/06/2023 at 48,715 km. The odometer now shows a mere 52,450 km and we’re assured the history is clean with no reports of damage. The very high factory specification includes a €6,400 Bang & Olufsen Hifi system, so the next owner will have to decide between Bach or the bark of the SLS’ 6.3-litre V8.
Commensurate with the exceedingly low mileage and excellent maintenance history, this car presents beautifully throughout with very few signs of use. The vendor assures us that it drives beautifully and despite being thirteen years old, still has the performance to seriously embarrass the supercars of today.

With so few kilometres under its belt, this Mercedes-Benz is in superb order inside and out. There’s very little in the way of wear to report and we’re assured that all the original systems remain in good working order. As the photographs show, it’s beautifully presented in readiness for its next owner.
The styling pays homage to the 300 SL and has aged just as well as its ancestor. The inclusion of “Gull Wing” doors makes the Coupé variant feel very special indeed and this example is brimming with optional extras. Unlike most supercars with this level of performance, (even today), the SLS is also supremely luxurious. You really could drive this car every day - although as the 52,000 km shows, this one has been reserved for special occasions.

The Mechanics

  • 6.2-litre M159 V8
  • Seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission
  • 571 horsepower and 650 nm of torque
  • 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and top speed of 315 km/h
  • Judiciously serviced from new by Mercedes-Benz main dealers
The vendor reminds us that this is the last Mercedes-Benz supercar to feature this superb M159 6.3-litre V8 - a powertrain voted ''Best Performance Engine'' in 2009 and 2010. With enormous reserves of power and torque on tap and a clever dual-clutch system to transmit it to the road, the SLS is a technological tour de force and a seriously impressive car to drive.
As the above service history shows, this example has been well-maintained all its life and has covered remarkably few kilometres. All presents beautifully under the bonnet and the vendor informs us that it drives brilliantly with no apparent issues to report.
