The Appeal

The Continental GT was the car that reinvented Bentley, beloved of celebrities and high-profile sports stars and a technological tour-de-force that brought with it the world’s first commercially available W12 engine.

Introduced at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show, the Continental GT was also the first Bentley to be developed entirely by VW Group and away from Rolls-Royce. It also very quickly became its fastest-ever seller, due in no small part to it being mass-produced in the company’s Crewe factory as opposed to being hand-built like its predecessors.

The four-wheel-drive platform was derived from that of the VW Phaeton luxury saloon, while under the bonnet was that innovative 6.0-litre W12 engine, which in the GT came with twin turbochargers giving it 552bhp and a top speed of 196mph – a hugely powerful GT, ideal for transcontinental blasts.

It was a massively impactful car, both due to its imposing size and also its astonishing performance, yet it was also as opulent as Bentley owners were used to. Its appeal went beyond the traditional, too, bringing Bentley ownership to a newer and more youthful customer base, helped in no small part by David and Victoria Beckham becoming some of the first customers.

This one is as plush as they come – a Mulliner specification car that would have set its original owner back over £130,000. It comes with impeccable provenance, including a full service history and 12 service stamps.

  • Excellent condition inside and out

Stealthy yet opulent, the Continental GT looks lavish in its deep and glossy Beluga Black with 20-inch gunmetal alloys.

It’s in absolutely stunning condition, with no notable damage or deterioration to the car’s bodywork. The headlight lenses – often an issue with Bentleys of this era – are crystal clear and the optional chrome trim and mesh grilles are in great condition.

The wheels are superb and are shod with fairly new rubber all-round, while the underside appears fine with no evidence of structural corrosion.

Step inside over the pewter-effect Bentley kickplates and luxury is the name of the game. It’s every inch the luxury GT you expect it to be, with Portland Beige Mulliner specification luxury quilted hide, matching dash rails and Piano Black highlights and infills, all in glorious, as-new condition.

It’s supremely comfortable and sumptuously equipped, with no major problems or signs of wear. All of the dials and controls work as they should, including the central infotainment system and climate control, while other premium features include double glazing, cruise control, adjustable drive and damper settings and satellite navigation. A set of factory Bentley floor mats completes the prestigious overall picture.

The Mechanics

  • 6.0-litre W12
  • 552bhp
  • Six-speed automatic with paddle shift and remote push-button start
  • Last serviced less than 1,000 miles ago

The Bentley’s 552bhp twin-turbo W12 engine, fascinatingly engineered on the basis of two VW V6s, is an incredible feat of engineering and sounds like nothing else when you open it up, yet at idle it’s so refined that you can barely hear it.

It has been impeccably serviced, mostly by main dealers and in the last 1,000 miles by a reputable independent and appears to be in fine health, holding a steady temperature and a smooth idle.

The vendor says that the car drives without fault and is very powerful, with no reported or known issues with the brakes, suspension or steering.
