The Appeal
Making over an icon was a bold move. The Esprit’s original chiselled Giugiaro lines had made it one of the most distinctive sports cars of the 1970s. Peter Stevens’ skilled makeover catapulted it into the modern era.
The new design was so successful that it stayed in production longer than the original. To celebrate, in late 2001 Lotus created the Anniversary, a limited run of 100 cars marking 25 years since the car’s introduction and all destined for the USA market. With 350bhp on tap thanks to two big fat Garrett turbos, this was a formidable sports car.
The Anniversary is one of the rarest and most desirable of Esprit variants. This is car 36, built in March 2002. It spent most of its life on the East Coast of the USA before arriving in Europe, initially in Germany, then with a collector in Switzerland and more recently in France. Each owner has clearly cherished it, evident in the condition and very low sub-22,000 mileage.
Benefitting from a comprehensive engine rebuild and recent servicing and maintenance work, it is in very good mechanical health with condition to match. A great opportunity for the collector.
