The Appeal

Perhaps you’re here for the Ferris Bueller association or because you’re a little short of the $18.5m that will bag you an original. Whichever it is, this highly detailed Parker 250 GT SWB California recreation is hugely impressive.
The key with the Parker evocations is attention to the intricacies. This car demonstrates the point, whether it’s the classic working Veglia dials in the refashioned dashboard or the bespoke steering column stalks. Elsewhere you’ll find manual window winders fitted to the doors - but discreet electric windows hidden away under the fake ashtray. There are even age-appropriate silver on black number plates and a tuned exhaust to replicate the original’s burbles and pops. It is a real testament to the art of recreation.
That detailing makes building these cars understandably expensive. Few have been built and they are all highly regarded and in demand. This must be one of the most desirable, painted as it is in rare and tasteful Rosso Barchetta - a Ferrari shade only used in the 50s and 60s when the 250 was current - with a professionally retrimmed tan leather cabin. It was completed in 2022 and has covered only 134 miles since completion.
The 250 GT SWB California is one of the most beautiful and rarest cars ever built. You can sense the devotion that went into this recreation, something that will surely reward the buyer and impressive whoever sees it rumble by.

  • Fibreglass bodywork closely replicates the original car’s proportions
  • Chrome wire wheels which have been fully converted to central hubs with spinners

  • Black electric fabric roof in very good conditions with deep colour and clear screen
  • Chrome front and rear bumpers with these and other chrome fittings well kept

  • Cabin closely replicates the original car’s features including seat design and dials
  • Fitted with fully working classic-style Veglia dials like original Ferrari cars
  • Neat details abound including faux manual window winders, Ferrari tread plates, bespoke column stalks and factory-style three spoke wheel
  • Modern USB/iPOD connectivity and hands free phone carefully hidden from view
  • Fitted with electric windows and electric seats
  • Few signs of the original factory Z3 interior now remain
The default choice for a Ferrari is Rosso Corsa. It is pleasing to find a car like this that eschews the obvious in favour of something more rarified. This recreation is finished in Rosso Barchetta, a shade used on 50s and 60s Ferraris when the original 250 GT was current. It suits the lines and the quality of the finish is obvious.
The paintwork is accented by a tan leather interior and neat details like wire wheels - which have been converted to central hubs with spinners - and chrome bumpers.
The level of detail applied to this car is genuinely impressive. This particularly applies to the interior where you’ll find bespoke column stalks, Veglia dials and electric window switches neatly hidden in a fake ashtray.

The Mechanics

  • 2.8litre 6cyl 190bhp BMW engine
  • 6spd manual gearbox
  • 0-60mph in around 7.5secs
  • Ferrari engine covers
  • Custom stainless steel exhaust
  • Uprated suspension system
  • Just 134 miles since completion in 2022
  • Car has covered only 24,000 miles in total
  • No reported running or driving issues
  • Reported to drive very well with beautiful sound track
  • No mechanical or running gear advisories on current MOT
The BMW cosmetics of this recreation are carefully hidden and the same applies to the mechanicals. The 2.8litre straight six BMW engine is neatly hidden behind Ferrari covers. The custom stainless steel exhaust system has been carefully tuned to replicate the burble and distinctive pops that characterise the 54 originals.
This is a very low mileage car - just 24,000 miles in total - with the reassurance of BMW mechanicals. The engine’s 190bhp delivers similar performance to the original car, 60mph arriving in a sprightly 7.5secs.
With only 134 miles covered since the recreation was completed in 2022, this car is in rude mechanical health. The MOT history confirms this, showing no mechanical or running gear advisories. The vendor reports that the car runs very well with no issues and no work required by the buyer.
