Unique 1980 Volkswagen Beetle body married to a galvanised Land Rover chassis
Fitted with a 200TDI engine and automatic transmission
Eye-catching custom build that garners attention everywhere
Registered in the UK with V5C documentation
The Appeal
And now for something completely different...
This custom creation is far from your typical classic car. Those familiar with Amazon Prime Video series 'The Grand Tour' will be familiar with Jeremy Clarkson's "The Excellent" - and this is based on a similar concept. With a 1980 Volkswagen Beetle body expertly grafted onto a galvanised Land Rover chassis, this vehicle offers a unique blend of vintage charm and off-road capability.
Now front-engined with Land Rover's venerable 200T TDI engine mated to an automatic gearbox driving all four-wheels, we're informed that this is a very capable vehicle. It weighs very little, so is surprisingly quick on and off the beaten track.
Complete with a UK V5C and still registered as a 1996 Land Rover, you'll be able to drive this weird and wonderful machine on the road once you've attained an MOT.
History and Paperwork
Registered in 1996
No formal service history; all maintenance carried out by the current owner
V5 UK registration document available
Owned in this configuration for over ten years
Offered without current MOT
The Condition
As the chassis is reportedly galvanised, it's highly resistant to corrosion and appears in very sound order
The Volkswagen body shows some signs of age, with localised corrosion and patinated paintwork
The interior is functional and in fair condition
Some corrosion to the bonnet and wings; but we're informed the body shell is generally very good
Custom winch bumper fitted - (winch not included in the sale)
Attracts significant attention; not for the faint-hearted
The Mechanics
Land Rover running gear and axles
2.5-litre 200 TDI
Four-speed automatic transmission
The vendor informs us that it starts easily and runs well
The vendor comments that it drives well and is very fuel-efficient thanks to its low mass
We're informed that it is loud inside the cabin but drives well for a custom creation

✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.

Once the transfer of the vehicle is complete, both parties confirm they are happy with the sale and the money is released to the seller.
