The Appeal
The Niva wasn’t a new idea, but it was an entirely new approach. As the first unibody 4x4 it can also lay fair claim to being the forefather of modern offroaders and SUVs.
Light, nimble and practical too - there’s space for four plus luggage - it is no surprise that the Niva was popular far beyond Russia. This very tidy 1993 example is a proper find: it has covered just 11,427 kms from new in the hands of a single Spanish keeper. Naturally it is in remarkably preserved condition.
The white paintwork and black vinyl interior show few signs of age. There are some neat accessories like the big off-road mud flaps and front and rear light guards. It even still has its steel factory wheels.
This Niva is surely about as close to a new example as you’re likely to find. It would make a perfect car for daily rural use. Or you could preserve it for shows and events.
