The Appeal
Porsche’s best selling sports car for a number of years, the 944 proved immensely popular and late S2 examples such as this cabriolet proved capable machines with their 3.0-litre engines and near equal front-rear weight distribution.
This 1991 Porsche was acquired by a close friend of the vendor in 2005 and has since been cherished and upgraded over time. The car then sat in a dry garage for around 4 years and has recently been taken out and freshly MOT tested. In good running order in spite of its period of hibernation, this is a smart example of the Porsche 944 and would be a great candidate for using and improving as the next owner sees fit.
The History and Paperwork
- Acquired by the vendor’s friend in 2005
- Steadily improved throughout their 17 year ownership
- The vendor informs us that the car had covered approximately 120,000 miles when their friend acquired it
- Has now covered an indicated 142,294 miles
- The car was fairly original when it was acquired in 2005
- Lever arch file with a number of invoices for work and servicing
- Original sales pack with service book
- V5C present
- Every MOT certificate since 1994 is present
- Once won a prize for most improved car at the TIPEC show
- Has covered 3 miles in the past 4 years
- Stored in a dry garage which has paid dividends
- Has now been recommissioned and MOT tested - valid until November 2023

The Interior
- The previous owner sourced some 944 Turbo seats which have more supportive bolsters
- The seats were reupholstered in OEM specification cream leather with blue piping and perforated inserts
- Club Sport steering wheel fitted
- Deep pile, Porsche embossed carpeting fitted
- A replacement gear lever gaiter was fitted
- Stainless steel sill protectors
- There is little wear to speak of and the interior has generally survived really well
- No sun damage visible on the dashboard
- Modern Alpine INE-W920R infotainment system fitted
- All in good order inside the boot, including under the carpet
- The vendor informs us that all the switchgear continues to function as it should
- 2 genuine Porsche immobiliser fobs and Porsche crested keys
The Exterior
- Sympathetically upgraded in a few areas
- Porsche Cup wing mirrors fitted
- Colour matched 968 door handles
- Clear front light lenses
- Original Tahoe blue paintwork
- Generally the paint has survived very well and still holds a good shine
- The bodywork is in fair condition overall and appears really straight
- The outer sills do now have some corrosion although the recent MOT test deemed it not to be a risk to the vehicle’s structure
- The vendor advises that the sills should be replaced as the remainder of the car’s great condition warrants it
- Looks to be in fair condition underneath with only a smattering of surface corrosion visible
- The previous owner fitted a new mohair roof with wind breaker
- New Bosch wiper blades fitted before the recent MOT
The Mechanics
- 3.0-litre 4-cylinder engine
- 5-speed manual gearbox
- Stainless steel Janspeed rear silencer and de-catalytic converter pipe kit
- K&N filter panel
- Water pump, alternator and timing belt replaced by the previous owner - the vendor advises these may warrant servicing or replacement again soon
- Camshaft timing, chain and tensioner changed and should still be in very good order
- Dyno test in 2014 (135,000 miles approx) showed 203 horsepower to the rear wheels
- Powerflex polyurethane bushes fitted
- Front struts, springs and rear dampers were reportedly replaced at some point
- Refurbished front wishbones and strut brace fitted
- Original steel brake pipes replaced with copper items
- Brake flexi hoses have been replaced with Goodridge steel braided items
- M030 braking kit with enlarged discs and callipers
- EBC Greenstuff brake pads and ATE Super Racing brake fluid
- New battery with 3-year warranty fitted by the vendor recently
- Runs and drives well although some further checks and recommissioning are advisable
Summary
This is a really well sorted example of the revered Porsche 944 Cabriolet. Evidently, the previous owner doted upon the car for a number of years and it deserves a new custodian who will bring it back to its best.
With a great deal of history and paperwork and a number of choice cosmetic and mechanical upgrades, this is a great car that you should consider making a space for in your garage.
