The Appeal

The XJ-S is a superb coupe but perhaps its real calling was always as a convertible. Compared to its more clinical German rivals, the Jaguar offers V12 sophistication, characterful lines and of course a healthy dose of wood and leather.
Painted in popular Arctic Blue metallig with a complementary grey leather cabin, this 1989 convertible is a very low mileage car that has had just four registered keepers over its 35 years. It is in very good order, the seller having invested in a new steering rack alongside regular servicing and maintenance since acquiring it in 2021. The car received new discs and pads and a service less than 200 miles ago.
The car forms part of a private collection and has clearly been looked after. There are few signs of even its diminutive mileage across the interior and exterior. It is pleasingly factory standard, right down to the Jaguar audio unit.
With its low mileage and long, advisory-free MOT to June 2025, this is a car that appeals as much to the head as to the heart.

  • Wide range of work undertaken in 2021 with less than 200 miles covered since
  • This included a service and work to suspension
  • Brake discs and pads replaced at the same time
  • Vendor reports that the “engine purrs with a growl when demanded”
  • We are told of an occasional plate knocking noise, possibly a heat shield,
  • No mechanical or running gear advisories on current long MOT
  • Steering rack replaced with few miles covered since
  • Electric fan switch has been replaced
  • The aerial was overhauled as the mast became unusable
  • Repairs to water jacket pipe, which corrodes near the alternator pulley
  • New set of spark plugs installed this year
  • The vendor reports that this has significantly improved engine performance
The vendor tells us:
“The Jaguar is a responsive drive, light on the steering and not surprisingly bad on fuel economy. The rear pads and disc are all in very good condition, which is a blessing where these are very expensive to replace where they are at the differential end of the axle.
“I was drawn to this car for it's colour combination of grey leather and blue hood which made it more modern. The V12 engine is a marvel of engineering. The car leaves a smile on your face every time when you accelerate.”
