The Appeal

Audi’s 90 was the upmarket version of its smoothly-styled, mid-market BMW 3-Series rival. And it was good, thanks to typically exquisite engineering.  Lucky buyers with deep pockets opted for this, the 2.3E, with the warbling 5cyl 10v engine that was shared with the Audi Sport Quattro.
Good examples are an exceptionally rare sight these days. Beautifully preserved in Stein Grey metallic with a matching grey velour cabin, this one is exactly that. It is an early 10v 2.3E and remains pleasingly factory standard, only some upgraded alloys enhancing the aesthetics today.
The car’s three keepers - one in Germany and two in the Netherlands - have used it regularly and maintained it well. Recent work includes a full service, timing belt, power steering belt and new injectors, fuel filter and fuel lines. It is said to drive ‘like new.’
With long APK to October 2025 this is a very usable, practical and stylish '80s saloon with rarity on its side.

The History and Paperwork

  • Dutch registration data indicates first registration 4th December 1987
  • This is likely to be an error as the 2.3E was introduced for the 1989 model year
  • This car’s chassis plate has a ‘J’ digit indicating it was built in 1988; this would seem correct and make it an early 2.3E model
  • First registered in Germany
  • Imported to Netherlands in August 2012, according to records
  • APK to 13th October 2025
  • Vendor advises three registered keepers
  • The first keeper was in Germany
  • Two subsequent keepers in the Netherlands
