Developed with the aid of Lotus engineer Roger Becker, the Toyota MR2 was leagues ahead of its mid-engined four-cylinder competitors, far faster and more advanced than the Fiat X1/9 and Pontiac Fiero. Tipping the scales at just over a ton and offered with a superb four-cylinder twin-cam, a MkI MR2 is still one of the best-driving two-seaters money can buy, and its boxy '80s styling is very much in vogue once more.
