The Appeal

The stunning Countach is for posters on the wall, but the Jalpa is for driving. Produced in tiny numbers and long over-shadowed by its more famous sibling, the ‘baby Lambo’ is the choice for those who really know their Sant’Agata thoroughbreds.
The Jalpa evolved from the Urraco, the Gandini-penned masterpiece built to compete with the 911, Merak and Dino. After poor sales of the Urraco and Silhouette, the Jalpa was a firm reset. It was re-engineered by Giulio Alfieri, Maserati’s former racing guru, and quality was dramatically improved. Contemporary reviewers loved it and so do modern ones, but when it was new the Countach grabbed all the headlines. Just 410 were sold.
All of which makes this 1985 car an utter gem for discerning collectors. It is one of the improved later cars, a scarce RHD, UK-market car with tiny mileage. The black-over-white colour scheme suits the beautiful Gandini lines and benefits from a high-end professional respray three year ago.
The car joined the current keeper’s collection in 2018 and has been sparingly used and regularly maintained in the intervening time. The condition is at a very high level. This is a real find for those who value exceptionally rare classic Lamborghinis.

The History and Paperwork

  • Original RHD UK market car
  • First registered 11th April 1985
  • Four registered keepers from new
  • Acquired by the current keeper in November 2018
  • Full bare metal, high-end respray three years ago
  • Presented in photographs with black on silver display plates
  • Last MOT expired in September 2020 at 44,820 miles with two minor advisories
  • Now showing 45,874 miles
  • Optional factory ‘Countach’ rear wing included in sale but has never been fitted

The Condition

  • Stunning black metallic paintwork presented to a high level following respray 3 years ago
  • Sparing use since completion has preserved the paintwork to near-perfect condition
  • Reported to have no rust and to have never been welded
  • Bodywork is exceptionally good with straight lines and good panel fit
  • Underside presents well with no welding reported and no rust visible
  • Sits on Lamborghini factory-correct 16in alloys showing barely, if any, wear
  • Equipped with mix of Pirelli and Goodyear quality tyres
  • Stand-out white leather interior looks virtually showroom-fresh
  • Original and unmodified interior with beautiful fittings and switchgear
The Countach may be more visually arresting, but perhaps there is an argument to say the Jalpa is more beautiful. It is certainly one of Gandini’s best-looking cars. This one’s understated black colour scheme accents the Jalpa’s neat update of the original Urraco lines. The car received a bare metal respray three years ago, the work completed to a very high standard as the photographs clearly show.
The colour scheme is a further draw with this car, the paintwork complemented by an impeccably presented white leather cabin. The interior looks barely used, despite this being a nearly 40-year-old car.
Wherever you look around this car, from that interior to the factory alloys, this car presents at a very high level. It is supplied with the factory optional ‘Countach’ rear wing, which has never been fitted.

The Mechanics

  • All-aluminium 3,485cc 90degreen V8 engine developing 250bhp
  • 5spd ‘dogleg’ manual gearbox
  • Four chain-driven overhead camshafts
  • Four twin-choke Weber carburettors
  • Low mileage RHD UK market car
  • No reported running or driving issues
  • Part of a classic car collection and maintained accordingly
Gulio Alfieri is the unsung hero of the Jalpa project. After making his name with Maserati’s racing team in the 50s, 60s and 70s, he was lured to Lamborghini in 1975 to develop the firm’s V8 engines. He was tasked with re-engineering the Silhouette into the Jalpa, prioritising more power and better quality.
The result is a proper driver’s car with decent power. The Jalpa’s lengthy evolution from the Urraco and the shading effect of the Countach means that those qualities have never been fully appreciated outside of an enthusiastic group of marque aficionados. Here is a chance to change that.
This is one of the later, revised post-1984 cars. It is believed to be an original RHD, UK-market car and shows an exceptionally low mileage covered by just four keepers. Since 2018 it has been part of a large, high-end classic car collection and maintained accordingly. It comes to market with no known running or driving issues.
