1984 Volkswagen Scirocco MK2 GT

Highlights

  • Light restoration in 2018/19
  • Reconditioned engine in July 2019
  • Current MOT to July 2023

The Appeal

Built on the A1 platform (the basis of the Mk1 Golf), the Mk2 Scirocco was the Mk2 Golf’s pretty, fine-handling cousin. That handsome coupé styling was coupled to a range of drivetrains and trim levels that offered something for everyone. Production ended in 1992, so they are now a rare sight on the road, and are increasingly collectible and appreciating in value.
This example was saved from potential scrappage by the current owner, who has spent around £4,000 getting the car lightly restored and recommissioned. Now they are unable to use it as much so are offering it for sale.

Summary

A handsome and charming coupé, the Mk2 Scirocco makes for an excellent modern classic. Simple to work on and with parts readily available, they’re an ideal starter classic or a great option for the home mechanic.
This fine example has already had significant amounts of restoration and recommissioning work carried out and would make a superb base for a full restoration project.
