The Plus
With its understated but undeniably elegant styling, the 604 was an understated and underrated car in its day. These remarkable saloons appeared at the end of the 'trente glorieuses', a period of remarkable economic prosperity in France. Unfortunately, their arrival was slightly late, and with the economic slowdown, their executive audience also dwindled.
The most beautiful of the 604s were undoubtedly these - the Heuliez limousines, of which only 124 were built by the French coachbuilder. With their long wheelbases and fabulous upholstery, these limousines often had fascinating lives. This one, which we understand to be the penultimate built, was briefly owned by Locavac SA to transport VIPs. This apparently included Madonna in 1987, who was driven from the airport to her hotel for her concert at Parc de Sceaux.
Based on the 2,800cc, 155bhp GTI, this highly engaging and incredibly rare car has been meticulously maintained and stored under cover, which no doubt explains its remarkable condition today. The combination of its rarity, history and well-preserved condition makes this Heuliez limousine a truly spectacular car.
