The Appeal
Ford was no stranger to ‘fastifying’ its family cars, so when it came to creating the XR4i it pulled out the stops. There was a new three door shell, a drizzle of go-faster accoutrements - most notably that twin-deck spoiler - and the grunty 2.8litre Cologne V6 borrowed from the Capri.
More potent sporting Sierras would follow, but it all started here. Today the XR4i is a rare and very characterful 80s hot hatch that works somewhere between sports car and relaxing GT. Good, unmodified examples are rare, but here we have one.
Finished in classic silver metallic, it is a very low mileage car whose sparing use delivers a neatly preserved vehicle across the exterior and interior. As a 1983 it qualified for Historic Vehicle status from April this year, so is now usefully MOT, tax and ULEZ exempt. The last MOT expired in May with no advisories.
The XR4i is a rare sight on the market, particularly with such low mileage. With interest in these cars growing, this early example is one not to miss.
