"Metalúrgica de Santa Ana, SA, later known as Santana, was founded in 1954 as part of a Spanish government initiative to create jobs in the impoverished region of Andalusia. It's a story not unlike that of Alfa Romeo's Alfasud in Italy in the 1970s.
After signing an agreement with Rover to build Land Rovers under licence, Santana began by assembling CKD kits, before developing its own versions of the Land Rover Series models. By the 1980s, the Spanish company had found solutions to common faults that their British Leyland counterparts were unable to resolve due to lack of finance, leading some to claim that Santana models were superior to British Land Rovers!
This 1982 example is the Spanish equivalent of a 109" Series III. As the photos show, it is a vehicle that has lived, but remains in good working order and appears structurally sound, having spent its life in a dry climate. Accompanied by Spanish registration papers, including ITV documentation from 2022, it would make an interesting restoration project, or could continue to work hard in its current condition.
