The Appeal
The advent of the 1980s and with it, the arrival of the 'hot hatchback' proved the final nail in the coffin for the British sports car industry. Smitten with our new front-wheel-drive pocket rockets, we forgot just how good the traditional British roadster was. Four decades later, it's time to give these cars the credit they deserve.
The Triumph Spitfire 1500 is a superlative example of the cars we were missing out on. With an increased cylinder stroke over previous iterations, torque increased significantly, making it ideal for everyday use in busy traffic. A wider rear track and increased negative amber improved handling, while synchromesh was finally added to the first gear for smoother operation.
This 1981 example is one of the last that Triumph produced and is today surely one of the smartest surviving examples. The vendor acquired it from its second registered keeper in October 2022 and has since carried out extensive work to ensure it remains in very good overall condition, both mechanically and cosmetically.
With Spring just around the corner, now's the time to secure yourself a sports car in readiness for the year ahead. This Spitfire 1500 would be a great buy
