The Appeal

Here is one for the many Mini enthusiasts. It is that rarest of rare finds, a genuine, unmolested, totally factory standard 1977 1000 with under 21,000 miles from new.
In the hands of the current keeper since 1982, it is a wonderful time warp, unrestored car, and the simple white and brown colour scheme is certainly key to its appeal. The sparing use has preserved the condition - particularly the oh-so-period brown vinyl cabin- and it is a solid car. But some areas would benefit from improvement as a running project.
The car comes to market with some recent work to the brakes and hoses and a new gear change oil seal. The vendor recommends replacing the battery before the winter.
Let's leave the last word to the vendor, who after all, has known this car for 42 years:
“It drives like it did from new. It is an absolutely genuine car in original condition.”

History and Paperwork

  • First registered 3rd August 1977
  • Three registered keepers according to DVLA records
  • Vendor reports that he acquired the car in 1982 and is second keeper
  • This discrepancy may be due to re-issuing the V5C
  • We are told the car comes with full history from first registration
  • Reported to be original with no upgrades or non-standard parts
  • MOT exempt and tax-exempt by age
  • Factory handbook and wallet as shown
  • Service book with some historic stamps
  • Recent work to brakes and hoses
  • New gearchange oil seal recently replaced

The Condition

  • Original and unrestored white paintwork with some signs of age
  • These include areas such as front and rear valances and base of front arches
  • There are other areas of ageing to note in photos, but the car appears structurally solid
  • Boot area shows some deterioration to inner arches but they look solid
  • Buyers should carefully check the photographs to reassure themselves of the condition
  • Both side front A panels have slight wear and may require repainting
  • The vendor informs us that the underside looks in very good order
  • Brown vinyl interior in good, original and unrestored condition
  • There are some signs of age inside such as fade to carpets but typical of age
  • Cabin appears largely standard including factory wheel and well-kept switchgear
  • Fitted with period-style radio to right of steering column

The Mechanics

  • 998cc Mini A Series engine
  • 4spd fully synchromesh gearbox
  • Vendor tells us that it may require a new battery before winter
  • All brakes and brake hoses were replaced about three months ago
  • A new gear change oil seal was fitted to the gearbox
  • Reported to ‘drive like it did from new’ by vendor
  • No reported running or driving issues
