Recent new clutch and carburettor overhaul in 2024
Stylish and well kept British saloon car rarity
The Appeal
The Hunter, in its many guises, was Ford’s Cortina beater. It didn’t quite work out, thanks in part to problems at the Rootes Group and Chrysler, but it was a valiant effort and a good car.
That makes this 1976 Super a very rare survivor. In good condition and slightly lowered, it is a fine reminder of just how good these crisply-styled three-box saloons look. That impression is helped by this car’s 2021 respray in fetching red. Neat chrome detailing plus some badging nods to the Hunter’s afterlife in Iran adds to its character and stance.
The car is in good condition inside and out and runs similarly well. Recent work has included a carburettor overhaul, new tyres and new clutch for the 4spd gearbox which is usefully fitted with overdrive. The vendor tells us that the exceptionally low mileage of 19,000 miles - amassed by just four keepers since 1976 - is warranted.
This Hunter is as practical as it is usable and stylish. A great classic rarity.
