1973 Triumph TR6

Vendor supplied images

Highlights

  • Upgraded with twin Weber carburettors, unleaded cylinder head and electronic ignition
  • Full complement of roofs: soft top (with cover), tonneau and hard top (for restoration)
  • Presented in superb overall condition

The Appeal

Designed by Karmann of Germany, the TR6 was significantly different to its TR predecessors. Designed for the United States, of the 91,850 TR6s produced, 83,480 were exported, and almost all went to the United States.
That includes this 1973 example, which recently came to France from America. Resplendent in its original ‘Pimento Red’, this TR6 presents impeccably, and the vendor assures us that it drives very well indeed. Various braking components and the carburettor reportedly benefit from ultrasonic cleaning, while new steering knuckles, bellows, and an alternator have been installed. The addition of electronic ignition and an unleaded petrol cylinder head conversion ensure this Triumph is exceedingly usable in modern traffic.
Aesthetically restored in 2010, it has been stored in a closed garage since then and has been driven very little. The car is beautifully presented in readiness for a new custodian.

The History and Paperwork

  • USA title + 846A import document + FFVE certificate
  • Contrôle Technique  valid until 06/11/2025
  • Imported from the USA with only two keepers to date: 1973-1976 then 1976-2023
  • 69,595 miles indicated

The Condition

  • Full complement of wet weather equipment: soft top (with cover), tonneau and hard top (which will require some restoration)
  • Cosmetically restored in 2010, dry-stored and used sparingly ever since
  • Refinished in its original ‘Pimento Red’
  • Straight, smart bodywork with no obvious signs of corrosion or accident damage
  • No notable deterioration evident to the chromework
  • By placing the car on a ramp, the vendor shows us that the underside is very smart indeed
  • The OEM wheels present very well
  • No notable wear apparent to the upholstery
  • The veneered dashboard looks in remarked shape for its age
  • Smart carpets and door cards
  • Radio fitted and reportedly working
  • We’re not informed of any known issues with the cabin electrics

The Mechanics

  • 2.5-litre straight-six
  • US-spec carburetted version
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • Fitted with twin Weber carburettors, unleaded cylinder head and electronic ignition
  • New alternator
  • Brakes and carburettor overhauled (ultrasonically cleaned)
  • New steering knuckles and bellows
  • New transmission links
  • Engine and gearbox fluid service completed
  • The vendor reports that the mechanicals are in very good condition; the original in-line 6cyl engine is powerful while the gearbox and clutch are in very good working order
  • When pulling away or when picking up torque, you can detect some mechanical play in the rear axle - (reportedly quite usual on this type of vehicle)
  • Good oil pressure indicated, no leaks and reportedly no excessive fumes
